What is the definitive Arnold Schwarzenegger film? He is at his most pumped, fighting tons of bad guys. There are cool, throwaway lines. A good woman and a beautiful but evil babe are a must. A powerful soundtrack, killer special effects and loads of guns? Check!
For many fans, TOTAL RECALL is that definitive Arnoldstravaganza! Here, Austria's greatest export since Mozart plays Douglas Quaid, a construction worker on Earth who keeps dreaming about Mars. While he wants to go, his wife, Lori (Sharon Stone), doesn't. So Quaid takes a virtual vacation at the 'Recall Inc.' travel agency and opts for an implanted secret agent fantasy - with fatal consequences. The implant activates a real memory! When his life is threatened and he can no longer trust even his wife, Quaid finds it harder and harder to tell fact from fiction. He soon has no choice but to seek the answers on Mars.
Paul Verhoeven ("Robocop", "Basic Instinct", "Starship Troopers") delivers another balls-out, hyper kinetic, colour rich roller-coaster ride. Alongside Arnold there is also a glorious, screen munching, bad guy performance by Michael Ironside while Sharon Stone does what she does best! Twists come thick and fast, the special effects are great, the art design gorgeous, there are Verhoeven's satirical games with cultural differences and similarities and plenty of his trademark hyper-violence! Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, TOTAL RECALL is total action, total Arnold!
