In LOCK UP, Sylvester Stallone grunts, sweats, grimaces and fights for survival in this tough-as-nails prison drama.
The original Italian Stallion plays Frank, a man who has just six months left to serve when he is transferred to a hell-hole jail run by Warden Drumgoole (Donald Sutherland in top sadistic form). He bears a grudge and is determined that the only way Frank will leave HIS jail is to be carried out, feet first, in a wooden box.
Once again, Stallone shows he can carry a dramatic role with the best of them and while the stock characters come thick and fast, director John Flynn ensures the sense of gritty realism remains firmly focussed. Is Frank going to go under? Will Warden Drumgoole's evil plans succeed? C'mon! This is Sylvester Stallone here! What do you think?!
LOCK UP is a classic of 1980s filmmaking. With no pretensions towards documentary the film sets out to entertain by ultimately providing its audience with a supreme sense of triumph as one man can and does break the sadistic system as only our hero, as only Sylvester Stallone, can.
