INCIDENT AT OGLALA
What happened on June 26, 1975, in the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota is still a mystery: Two FBI agents were killed in a shooting with a group of Native Americans after a period of extreme tension. Several men were charged but only one, Leonard Peltier, was found guilty.
Robert Redford, who is executive proucer, interviews Native Americans and representatives from various branches of the US government and argues persuasively and forcefully that Peltier, if not unjustly convicted, certainly did not get a fair trial.
Michael Apted is best known for “The World Is Not Enough” and “Coalminer’s Daughter”. But he has also directed several award-winning documentaries. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the case, justice must not only be done but be seen to be done. INCIDENT AT OGLALA argues convincingly that neither was the case. At the time of writing Peltier is still behind bars.
