The Hungarian patriot Count Sandorf is betrayes by his friend on the eve of an uprising against the ruling Austrians. Barely escaping the firing squad, he vanishes in a hail of bullets beneath the waterd of the Adriatic.

Fifteen years later the mysterious Dr. Antekirtt suddenly appears, seeking one of the men involved in the Sandorf affair. But his plans for revenge get complicated as the son of one of Sandorf's friends falls in love with the daughter of the villain! But Antekirtt is not to be deterred, setting out to destroy the realtionship and claim the men who are responsible for Mathias Sandorf's downfall one after the other.
