Anyone looking for a film that the whole family can enjoy should take a look at ROCK CRYSTAL, a dedication to the power of love, magical intercession and a sense of family unity that spreads its charms so well and widely you will end up watching it over and over again. And that's just the grown-ups!

The towns of Gschaid and Millsdorf are in a constant state of feuding with each other. Nevertheless Gschaid's Sebastian and Millsdorf's Susanne are married. In her husband's town Susanne has to put up with daily harassment by the locals, which also extends to her two children. Finally she moves back to her parents, alone. When the children, who long to find a magical crystal they believe has the power to reunite the family, get lost in a howling blizzard on the exposed mountain after bringing their mother her Christmas presents, both towns set up rescue missions.

Director Joseph Vilsmaier (BROTHER OF SLEEP, THE HARMONISTS) knows his audience, young and old, and here he concentrates on telling a moving Christmas tale with a sweet moral and all the charms of a winter's tale - a subtle and romantic note included. Accompanied by outstanding performances by the two young child-actors, ROCK CRYSTAL goes well beyond what is often served up as children/family entertainment by refusing to patronise its audience or underestimate their intelligence. Entertaining and moving, this one's a keeper.
